Vinyasa Yoga & Ayuverda 200 hr Teacher Training

Overview
Namaha Yoga School is pleased to be offering a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training in Kineta, Attiki, Greece in the summer of 2018. This Vinyasa and Hatha Yoga Teacher training will guide you through a transformational experience of both body and spirit. The style of Vinyasa taught is joyful, challenging and uses the precision of alignment, while allowing you to flow through the Vinyasa tradition. Hatha is a broad term used to describe all styles of yoga that use physical movement. In this training, we will teach Hatha through sequencing to be a more static style of yoga and accessible to a wide range of people. Through this particular approach of teaching yoga, we learn how to connect seemingly different asanas together with integrity and alignment; how to link in an intelligent way, things that may seem independent of each other into a dynamic, exciting flow; how to create and leave space between the movements and mindful transitions. This is where the creativity and joy come into teaching! This will also help you as a teacher to easily adapt to different levels of students and class planning in a safe and skilful way. As a Yoga Teacher you will leave feeling confident in creating different levels of Vinyasa classes as well as more traditional Hatha Yoga classes, teaching meditation and pranayama, as well as Dharma talks.

The Teachers
At the heart of any training are always the teachers. Bringing years of experience and a genuine love for yoga and sharing the tools it gives us, is Jonni-Lyn Friel. Jonni-Lyn is a Jivamukti teacher whose warmth, humour and compassion shine through her teachings and practice. Her depth of studentship and years of daily exploration in breath and body have transformed her into a skilled personification of yoga. Jonni-Lyn’s deep love and respect for all of Yoga’s teachings, have given her the strength and passion to teach from her heart to those who wish to learn.

Jonni-Lyn will be joined by guest teacher Evangelos Apostolopoulos for Anatomy and Kirtan. Evangelos is a RYT500 Yoga teacher and a musician. He has been creating yoga workshops, and co-leading Yoga and Aerial Yoga teacher trainings and retreats. He is trained in Anusara Yoga, Yoga Therapy, Thai massage, Ear acupuncture, TRX, Animal Movement and NHR in schools and training centers from New York to Thailand and India. As a musician, in the past he composed music for theatrical plays. Now in various workshops he connects the power of music with the spirituality of yoga.

The Teacher Training in Kineta, Greece
This will be a one-month intensive training, consisting of 4 weeks in total. You must attend the entire course in order to be considered for graduation. The program follows the traditional “Guru Kula” style of training, where the students live closely and study with their teacher. This gives the benefit of experiencing the “yogic” lifestyle of an Ashram.

The training will be held in Villa Arian, at the Kineta beach, just 60km away from Athens. Villa Arian practically consists of two villas and is an ideal place for rest and tranquility. The villas are situated directly on the beach, surrounded by a large garden with trees and lawn, and offer a private pool, a tennis court and rooms with en-suite bathrooms.

Course outline
Course 1: History and Philosophy of yoga
Yoga practice is an evolutionary experience. Whether one can chart its history clearly and how far back will it remain relevant are the very questions our studies will explore. So many traditions with so many more claims!
Course 2: Meditation
A daily meditation practice is deeply important and equal to all aspects of our yoga practice. During this training our meditation practices will include active, breath, silent, mantra and visual. We will explore the varieties every day. The trainee will be supported to discover the form that is most meaningful to their practice.
Course 3: Daily Asana Practice
The very heart of our intelligent vinyasa training, asana, will be thoroughly practiced, examined and explored. How many poses are there? Countless! How much will be performed? All of them!
Course 4: Sanskrit
To hold the practice is to understand its language. To speak clearly from a basic knowledge will draw your voice and presence more skillfully into the room. Ground your education in the art of Sanskrit and enjoy the potency of yoga both physically as well as vibrationally.
Course 5: Alignment and postural modifications
Over the course of one’s yoga life, alignment and the power to modify will make a radical difference to the depth of practice and to the subtleties of personal awareness and insight. Two questions at its root: What difference does a difference make? Now, what are you prepared to do? Be self assured in answering them.
Course 6: Anatomy
Being in a yoga vinyasa training we will no doubt examine our anatomy from head to toe. That being said, we will also explore the anatomy of our breath as well as the anatomy of our prana. Throughout a vinyasa experience, these three anatomies triangulate naturally. To understand how to develop our awareness of them and how to co-participate in them is at the very heart of this yoga vinyasa training.
Course 7: Pranayama
Literally means to extend the prana. To explore its intimate passage of our breath to our body, and through both, to ourselves. Prana translates as “life-force” and working skillfully with pranayama means to expand our life’s vital energy. We will hold a daily practice of varied pranayama.
Course 8: Sequencing and Planning your class
The very tools to create the body of a shared yoga experience. To open the space, to understand how to open the body, to work in the postures in order to arrive at the summit of the sequence, to safely and successfully come down from said summit, to close the body and why. To offer a theme in practice. To deepen the intimacies of yoga.
Course 9: Hands on assisting
A powerful tool for the teacher. To support and administer the right touch for the maximum potential shift. That of the very greatest outcome of transformation, to the basic understanding to hold space to perhaps the endless possibilities of subtle difference. How to assist without getting in the way of the student’s experience or making it about yourself.

Jonni-Lyn Friel

Jonni-Lyn Friel has been teaching Yoga since 2006 and is a Jivamukti teacher. She has recently moved to Victoria,Canada from Athens ,Greece. In 2016 she founded Namaha Yoga School, a collective of teachers from around the world from different traditions who share the common belief that teaching Yoga is a path of Seva, or service. She first was exposed to Yoga as a small child in Canada through her first teachers, her parents, and joined in their practice by watching and following along. Yoga was always a self practice that took her through years of competitive swimming, University and backpacking around the world.

In 1999, she stepped into her first Yoga class and discovered the joys of having a teacher and being taught from another's experience and knowledge. In 2006 she completed her first teacher training in Athens, Greece. With a strong background in alignment and Anusara, she began to explore the world of Vinyasa and philosophy, chanting and the devotional aspects of yoga. She has started discovering the world of Ayurveda and is back in school to become an Ayurvedic Counsellor, a perfect addition to her yoga teaching knowledge.

A 500 hour RYT, she has taught numerous teacher trainings internationally, where her love is to share the Bhagavad Gita and to teach service and compassion as a way to happiness and self realization. Jonni-Lyn knows Yoga to be sacred, healing and powerful. This is how it has affected her life and spirit. Her greatest joy is to share her knowledge and pass on the teachings of her beloved teachers to others, in hope that it serves them in their lives.
